Earth Magic

Born from the buried rocks and soaring mountains, the strength of earth passes to those who live within her bowels, who dig themselves down into her protective embrace, and come out but once in a great while. Thus was the grandeur and permanence of stone passed to the race of man, gifted to them as they learned to burrow down, extracting minerals and metal from their ancient homes. With those precious gifts of glittering beauty, mother earth passed along her talents and her skills, and those with the sense found the talents comforting and reinforcing. These people have gathered themselves behind the curtain wall at Tri-Hauwcerton, and all but a very few of their number may be found within that city. The most centralized of the magics, earth mages are born nowhere but that city and the surrounding terrain, and live their lives digging deeper into the earth, reinforcing the stone tunnels with their own magic. Productive to an extreme, they never seem to be happy except in those moments when they are creating.

In centuries past, earth mages have made fearsome combat magicians, able to shatter an enemy's armour or blade with but a touch, but that tradition is all but extinct, with only one man remaining to carry on the mantle. Called Arfod Ddewin, it was once the pride of the Tri-Hauwcerton army, but decades of peace and a booming economy have pulled the mages away, and now they practice Carega yn Gweithio, the art of creating from stone. A totally different mental state exists between the two, for one is built about the process of creation, while the other focuses entirely on the destruction of objects. Polar opposites, they represent the deep split between the combative aspects of earth magic, and the those of a constructive nature.
