Fire Magic
Forged in the scalding heat of the desert, the magic of fire burns and burns, scorching all those who wield it. Seen by the other three elements as consuming and destructive, the people who most embody the flame often seem to embody that nature, willing and able to use flames to tackle any problem, even those that do not call for such a reaction. Flighty and quick to temper, finding provocation is easy to one of that sort, and with the magical fires that leap from their fingertips, a solution is always at hand. Found within Bhreac Veryan and all the lands that surround it, they are the most populous of all the magicians, and have taken the greatest part in shaping the history of The Four Part Land. Hymerodraeth Heula was built on the backs of the fire mages, marching with the serried ranks of soldiers to war, capable of obliterating their less combative brethren and swinging the tide of battle. It was only when the traditions and the talents of the fire mages reached a low ebb that the Niam Liad and Tri-Hauwcerton were able to slip free from the noose of burning flames, and only by appropriating some of the training and traditions of the fire were they able to remain free. Fire mages are not subtle when it comes to combat, and let rip with fire and lightning, sending them arcing across the battlefield to rip gaping holes in the ranks of their foes. Trained in combat to this day, Bhreac Veryan is the only city-state that maintains a standing military force of mages, although Niam Liad possesses an irregular unit of skirmisher-mages.
There is one overarching tradition that drives all of the training and the teaching of fire mages, and that is Llucheden, the practice and the use of fire as a weapon. Simple, brutal, effective, it does not disguise or trick the receiver, merely lets waves of heat roll over them until they are stifled and scorched. Still the pride of Bhreac Veryan, in recent years they have turned some of their mages away from the destruction, and towards a new-born tradition called Dywod Gwydr. Born in the factories of glass and sand, it is the first attempt at turning the fire towards a productive end, by using the heat to shape and mould the tools and the sand into beautiful glass sculptures and other fine ornaments. Bhreac Veryan being as it is, however, the primary product of the factories of glass and sand is military, and even those of Dywod Gwydr are required to train in the tradition of Llucheden several times a year. Never will the mages of fire be caught unprepared again.
