Tregonethra

Tregonethra is an old kingdom, perhaps the oldest of all that grace The Four Part Land. Founded long ago by sailors, traders and pirates, it evolved as the inhabitants clawed their way farther into the island of Bohortha Eilan, and discovered the rich forests and other native materials that lay within the ring of the mangrove swamps. Soon, artisans and builders swept over from the mainland, seeking to make their fortune by creating goods for trade. As they did, the people changed, and the pirates became privateers, and then the privateers became traders, and the land struck down those who would pirate their ships, for the safety of the sea became their primary goal. Otherwise, they would have no outlet for the sustaining trade.

The wars of expansion that Bhreac Veryan engaged in, and Hymerodraeth Heula, both profited the Tregonethrans immensely, and led to their status as one of the true strongholds of The Four Part Land. At first, after conquering Niam Liad, the soldiers of Bhreac Veryan thought they could cross the seas, and render unto their leader all of the lands upon the continent. The mighty fleet that set forth from the peninsular city was smashed, as the sleeker, faster, ships of Tregonethra darted in and out, slicing away portions of the force and slowly destroying them, shattering the largest assemblage of vessels ever seen with superior skill.

After that debacle, the rulers of Bhreac Veryan let the island nation live in peace, and Tregonethra built an empire upon the back of its trade, supported by the threat of its great navy. Never did the Tregonethrans allow another navy to come close to theirs in size, for to do so was to give up the only defence they had for their land. The island of Bohortha Eilan, as well as the smaller Rescassa Eilan, both hang in the southeastern sea, directly to the east of the peninsula of Ngorynys, upon which sits the land of Niam Liad.

Protected by prevailing winds and the walls of wood that they have built, the people of Tregonethra are, perhaps, the freest in all the land, where there is little in the way of caste or social structure, except that determined by how much coin each man possesses. Freed from the strife of invasion, the populace has built a political structure that relies upon voting and assemblages, although there is a provision for a single strong leader when military action is necessary.

This more relaxed attitude towards military matters has not stemmed their aggressive and acquisitive tendencies, however, as Tregonethra maintains several protectorates and other forms of influence in almost every single coastal city, aside from those under the direct control of Niam Liad. Viewing themselves as the most enlightened of the rulers, Tregonethra allows limited self-rule in domestic affairs within their protectorates, but any attempt at military action is met with swift justice from the marines of the Horthan navy.
